Record cost at intake
Save the purchase price, purchase date, source, taxes, inbound shipping, and how shared lot costs were allocated. Waiting until sale day usually turns cost basis into a guess.
Keep listing context
Track platform, listing date, asking price, offer history when useful, and the exact card record. Do not create a separate sales sheet that loses photos and condition notes.
Calculate the real result
Net proceeds equal sale price minus platform fees, payment fees, outbound shipping, supplies, refunds, and other direct costs. Net profit then subtracts the card's cost basis.
- Net proceeds = sale price minus selling costs
- Net profit = net proceeds minus cost basis
- ROI = net profit divided by cost basis
Review patterns, not isolated wins
Compare results by player, product, purchase source, holding period, and sales channel. A repeatable small margin may matter more than one memorable sale.
